Ruth: “What is your favourite part of your job?”

Mr. Raw: “Being with the students when I can is the most fun part of my job”

Ruth: “What’s your least favourite part?”

Mr. Raw: “Being stuck behind a computer screen”

Ruth: “What would happen if there was no school director?”

Mr. Raw: “I’d like to say there would be a lot that didn’t happen. Recently I was sick and because I work with a very good team of teachers and other staff, everything was able to run like it should do. When I am not here, I can be very happy that the school will keep running properly and that there won’t be any problems. However, without a director it would be very difficult to join students in our primary school with students in our secondary school and keep those links together.

Ruth: “Is it true that you have taken a shower before in the school?”

Mr. Raw: “Yes!

*Laughter erupts among the children*

Mr. Raw: “What’s so funny about that? You know what? MORE than one shower.”

Ruth: “Why?”

Mr. Raw: “Well sometimes my days are very long and maybe that means I will run in to school in the morning and then I’ll have a shower. Or I might go for a run after school and have a shower then. It sounds like I’m showering here all the time but I’m not. We have them though so why not use them? There was also one time when our heating at home was broken and I came into school and had a shower!”

Ruth: “What do you do on Summer Break?”

Mr. Raw: “For half of the break or more I am still working at the school. Other than that, I usually go away somewhere nice on holiday and spend a little bit of time at home and relax.”

Ruth: “What are your responsibilities in school?”

Mr. Raw: “I have to have an overview of everything that’s happening in the school. It doesn’t mean that I know everything but it does mean that I need to know generally what is going on so that I can talk with teachers and staff members about things that might be happening in other departments of the school. I also have to be in contact with people in the city of Heidelberg with regards to things about our school. Perhaps there are things we want to be a part or that the city wants our school to be part of. I also work with other schools and I talk with Phorms, the company that owns our school, about how we are doing and how we can become a better and stronger school.”

Ruth: “What other faculty members are you connected with?”

Mr. Raw: “Everyone! I am connected to every faculty member one way or another. There is no one that can escape me J. Mostly I work with our school principals Mr. Lopez and Mr. Whitmore and with the program coordinators.

Thank you, Mr. Raw, for sharing a snapshot into the life of the school Director with us in Early Primary and thank you to Ruth who carried out the interview fantastically!
