From The School Director

Dear H.I.S. Community,

We have entered the last few weeks of the school year and every day is full from now on. The Primary School Summer Performance is eagerly awaited next Friday (21st) and promises to be a wonderful occasion. We start at 08:45 in the MPR. Information on the upcoming whole school H.I.S. Sports Day is included in this newsletter. As we await the Summer 2024 Olympics in Paris, the day is sure to be lots of fun and we invite you to attend, support and share the occasion with the students. A staff – parent – student relay event is always a possibility and could be spontaneously organised so make sure you have your running kit on!

The final day of school also approaches and we will finish on Friday 28th June at 12:00 noon. We will have time to celebrate the end of the year together, before we go off on our holidays. On the last day, H.I.S. will provide refreshments from 12:00 and parents will not need to bring in food to share. We hope that this will make it easier for families heading straight off at the weekend.

You may have been wondering when the full school calendar for 2024-25 would be appearing. Unfortunately, we have had some technical difficulties in preparing it this year, however we should be able to include it with the newsletter next week. The calendar includes all of the important dates and events for the year and helps the whole community in planning the year ahead. Please remember that student deadlines have not been included as they are more readily accessible to the students in ManageBac. In the meantime, the basic date calendar (yellow version) for 2024-25 is on the H.I.S. Website in the admissions section.

In next week’s newsletter, we will share information on the staffing for 2024-25.

There’s a small matter of a football tournament starting this weekend. For those of you who have been eagerly awaiting Euro 2024 (I include myself), I hope the weekend is fun. For those of you on the other end of the scale, you have my sympathies.

I hope to see many of you at the PTG Flea market tomorrow. Although the rain is falling now, the weather looks better tomorrow and if not then we will retreat into the MPR. The PTG are still short of a few volunteers if you have an hour or two to spare.

Have a good weekend
Allyn

H.I.S. Sports Day

We invite all members of the H.I.S. community to join us for the H.I.S. Sports Day on Tuesday 25 June. We are looking forward to a fun day with students demonstrating their skills in a number of sporting arenas. The morning session will be spent on the field for EP – Grade 4, where they will be playing games they have created specifically for Sports Day. Grades 5 – 10 will be competing in traditional athletic events using the track and outfield. In the afternoon EP – Grade 4 will move to the track, and Grades 5 – 10 will have use of the field for team events.

All students will need to have appropriate outdoor sports clothes, including outdoor sports shoes. Sunscreen/cream should be applied before school begins. Caps and other protective clothing from the sun are recommended. Water will be provided by the school, but please make sure that students have refillable water bottles as usual. Students who normally have a school hot lunch will be provided with a packed lunch. Fruit, generously provided by parents through the PTG, will be available on the field as well.

H.I.S. Sports Day will take place at the Sportzentrum West, Hinterer Entenpfuhl 1, HD-Wieblingen. It is easily accessible on the OEG tram No. 5 (Tram stop: Heidelberg, Fachhochschule)

The schedule for Sports Day (25 June 2024):

08:15 Secondary and Primary School drop-off at H.I.S. as usual

Upcoming Events

Saturday 15 June - Flea Market

We would love the H.I.S. community supporting and joining the Flea market tomorrow for a lovely cup of coffee and cake and to browse around. There will be books, toys, clothes, craft items, drinks, eats stands and many other items.

Tuesday 25 June - Sports Day

All parents need to provide two portions of fruit per child - NOT CUT UP - as this will be given to the children during the sports day. PTG will be at pick-up to receive the fruit. To make it easier and to reduce wastage, we have allocated fruit per class to be brought in:

Gr 6,7,8 - Grapes
Gr 9,10,11 - Bananas
