On a misty October morning with fog filling the skies above, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students started their expedition training with their first hike.

They met in Neckarsteinach and walked the route of the four castles with some warm sunshine peeking through, before heading back along the river to cross it and start the climb up to misty Burgfeste Dilsberg for a lunch stop.

The students used maps and compasses to practice navigation and orienteering skills. More work will be done on this in future sessions.

It was a pleasant afternoon and a great start to the expedition training, which will continue in November.
