GUIDING STATEMENTS

Mission

We, the H.I.S. community, work together to facilitate the intellectual, emotional and social development of our students, to promote international understanding and enable students to make a difference to the world in which they live.

Philosophy

We believe that education is the key to individuals becoming responsible global citizens. We believe that education should address all aspects of the students’ development and that it should value and respect their individuality. The whole staff, parents and students themselves significantly contribute to the growth of the students’ intellectual curiosity, understanding, creativity and international mindedness.

International mindedness

Open-mindedness is our constant companion on this journey from self to other. We need to develop an active and sensitive frame of mind, a respecting and caring attitude and a desire to know and explore otherness without fear. With our minds open, we need to be nourished with cumulative experiences that shape our worldview. Through opportunities, which are fully integrated into school life, we become part of a flourishing culture of new perspectives.

Core values

Respect is a fundamental value of our school, which influences, and is the basis for, the environment of learning at H.I.S. Respect for self and others is an integral part of our community, be it in the way we learn, what we learn, why we learn, where we learn or from whom we learn. We support respectful learning by encouraging everyone to appreciate and develop the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile (www.ibo.org).

ANY QUESTIONS?

  • Is financial assistance available?

H.I.S. families who encounter financial difficulties may apply for financial assistance for tuition fees.

  • What will happen when we return home/move on? How will my child fit into the former/new school?

One of the advantages of an international curriculum is that it enables children to move more easily from one country or school to another. Tolerance, flexibility and the ability to cope with change are some of the values and skills encouraged and taught at H.I.S. which will help children to adjust to such moves.

  • Can children be enrolled mid-year?

Yes. Applications may be submitted at any time throughout the year and will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Availability of space in a classroom may, however, be a limiting factor at any time of the year.

  • Are the IB Programmes recognised in Germany?

Yes, Grade 10 is recognised as the equivalent to the German "Mittlere Reife" and the IB Diploma is officially recognised as an equivalent to the German "Abitur".

  • Which curriculum does H.I.S. follow?

The school offers an international curriculum. Details can be found under Curriculum. (https://www.hischool.de/curriculum/international-baccalaureate/) H.I.S. is an IB World School authorized for the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the IB Diploma Programme of the International Baccalaureate.
